I began this painting en plein air during the Art & Nature paint-out with the Laguna Plein Air Painter's Association at Heisler Park in Laguna Beach over Veteran's Day weekend.
I like the quiet area at Monument Point and usually stand looking over the ocean for the sweeping views. On this bright morning I thought it fitting to paint the Veterans Memorial as a silhouette against the bright sky and ocean.
Most people stop to look over the ocean, but one person stopped to read the inscription on the plaque.
I had to include her!
On a side note, this is not her dog! Her dog was tugging at the leash eying the pigeons!
Another man walked up after she left, and they both sat in the shade. I used his mellow dog to complete the picture.
